Scale Up Plan

Vision 2025

SeSTA visualises having a significant outreach by 2025. With its focus on poverty pockets, it sees its operations spanning across the five states of the north-east: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura by 2025. Mostly it will be engaging directly at the grassroots while at other places, SeSTA may extend support non-directly as a resource organization. SeSTA plans have its operations in approximately 1,200 villages, 18 districts and 40 blocks. It will focus on the overall development of a village including livelihoods enhancement, health and education. Its primary unit of intervention will be the Self-Help-Group (SHG) and will facilitate approximately 12,000 SHGs, affecting the lives of 1,50,000 households. Enhancing livelihood opportunities will be a dominant focus and to increase the capacity of the SHGs to access their rights and entitlements and participate actively in local governance structures and systems. It will also help nurture vibrant collectives.

By 2025, 1.5 Lakh women members from SHGs will be collectivized into 44 Producer Organizations and members of each producer organization will be engaged in some livelihood activities through optimal utilization of resources for enhanced production and income. It will also ensure livelihoods of the landless and marginalized through alternate livelihood means and participation in the market. A set of community cadres will also be groomed to provide quality services at the doorstep of the participating families. Over a period of six years, SeSTA plans to enhance the income of a family by 50000 per annum. Along with this, the increase in food sufficiency by 1.5 times, replicating already demonstrated on the farm and off-farm livelihood models for additional income of 30000 per annum are the other keys envisaged outputs. Along with this SeSTA also envisions that all the processes would be ‘women-led’ and it will lead to women enjoying the higher status of well-being which will bring desired changes to their own self as well as others around them.

In addition to programmatic interventions, SeSTA also wants to become a vibrant, value-based and professional organisation. So, by 2025, SeSTA envisages to work on the following themes/functions too:

Field delivery structure

Grassroots actions will be further strengthened to equip them for scaling up. Operations will be additionally decentralised and the team at block level will be the main integrating unit and the operational hierarchy will support it

Programme delivery structure

Going forward, SeSTA’s staff will leverage programme money from State Rural Livelihood Mission, NREGA and other government schemes (approx. INR 150 Cr. In 5 years) for household-level investments towards achieving desired outcomes. They will continue to raise funds via other donors to develop other innovative models and strengthen their work. Diversification of livelihood baskets to include high risk and high-value crops, market linkages and value addition. Planning Process will be made robust and collectives driven. Formation and nurturing of Farmer Producer Organizations and nesting of Community Resource Persons in these as an exit marker will be streamlined.

Leadership and functions

Head office will be adequately staffed and strengthened to integrate multiple functions and support the field teams. Creation of a management group comprising of the Executive director and Directors (Fund Raising, operations, Finance, IT, Human Resource). They will be ably supported by second-line Collective Leadership with roles differentiation – identified strengths and proclivities and groomed second level of leadership. Executive Traineeship programme (ETship) will be further streamlined to groom development professionals. Grooming more women in leadership roles.

IT, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning & MIS

More usage of technology in data collection and analysis will be focused upon including comprehensive reporting system, Farmer Producer Organization business management, and real-time tracking of target families.

Systems & Processes

As the Organisation grows, the feedback mechanism will be further streamlined, learning forums within the organisation will be strengthened, and documentation and dissemination of learning will be systematized.

Fund Raising Engine

A small and effective fundraising team, a 5-year fundraising strategy that focuses on building on a strong institutional and corporate pipeline of donors who are converted and engaged to give more consistently. A few strategic fundraising positions placed in the metros to secure greater access and make SeSTA s work more visible outside the North East. The organisation through a combination of a larger base of institutional and corporate income and early investment in an unrestricted revenue channel (digital) would begin to build up a pot of unrestricted money to cover the core costs.
